Stability Instrument Requirement for Tankers

All tankers shall be fitted with a stability instrument, capable of verifying compliance with intact and damage stability requirements approved by the Administration having regard to the performance standards recommended by MSC.1/Circ.1229 and MSC.1/Circ.1461.
According to this new requirement;
- All tankers constructed on or after 1 January 2016 shall be equipped with stability instrument,
- All tankers constructed before 1 January 2016 shall comply with this regulation at the first scheduled renewal survey of the ship after 1 January 2016 but not later than 1 January 2021.
- And all equipped stability instrument shall be approved by/on behalf of Administration.
This requirement has been incorporated in IBC Code, BCH Code, MARPOL Annex I, GC Code and IGC Code by MEPC.250(66), MEPC.249(66), MEPC.248(66), MSC.377(93) and MSC.370(93); and applies to all chemical, oil and gas tankers; new or existing.
Türk Loydu will provide approval of stability instruments in relation to this new requirement entering into force on 01 January 2016, in accordance with the standards identified above.
