4 tugs commissioned in Petkim Aliağa plants of Sanmar Denizcilik, one of the important tug producers and operators of the world passed successfully the audits performed by Türk Loydu and were entitled to be granted ISM Code Safety Management System Certificate. Certificates issued for the tugs of Sanmar Denizcilik were delivered with a ceremony organized in the Head Office of Türk Loydu.

Sanmar Denizcilik who sustains its activities of Tug and Pilotage within the administrative boundary of 7 separate Port Authorities in Turkey and in 3 separate countries abroad preferred Türk Loydu for certification of its ISM Code Safe Management System established for the purpose of providing service in world standards with its young and modern fleet of tugs under its operation, providing safety of life and property and protecting the environment.

Sanmar Denizcilik concluded the studies started last year in order to be able to fulfill the requirements of International Safety Management (ISM) Certificate within its head office and passed successfully the audit performed by Türk Loydu and became entitled to be granted ISM Document of Compliance (DOC). Following certification by Türk Loydu of Safety Management System established by Sanmar Denizcilik, 4 tugs commissioned in Petkim Aliağa plants were entitled to be granted ISM Code Safe Management System Certificate as a consequence of successful completion of performance of the audits performed by Türk Loydu in order the tugs under operation to be able to be granted ISM Code Safety Management System Certificate (SMC).

ISM Code Safety Management System Certificates issued for the first time in Turkey for the tugs of Sanmar Denizcilik were delivered to Sanmar Denizcilik with the ceremony organized on 9th March 2018 in the head office of Türk Loydu.  Ali Gürün, Member of Board of Directors of Sanmar Denizcilik; Korhan Doruk, Operation Manager as well as other directors and Türk Loydu directors and employees attended the certificate delivery ceremony hosted by Cem Melikoğlu, Chairman of Board of Directors of Türk Loydu Foundation.

Cem Melikoğlu, Chairman of Board of Directors of Türk Loydu Foundation who made a speech in the ceremony following information on ISM Code Certification process carried on by Türk Loydu stated that Sanmar Denizcilik established a Safety Management System in order to provide life and property safety and to protect the environment due to the port operations and the risky operations realized by the tugs that run in the pilotage operations and that they were glad for their trust to the knowledge and experience of Türk Loydu for assessment and certification of this system and called all tug operators for applying a Safe Management System in their enterprises. Cem Melikoğlu added that Türk Loydu had great experience in the process of certification of the passenger vessels and tankers operating in the coasting line in conformity with the National Safe Management System and that they wanted to make use of this experience for tug operators.

Ali Gürün, Member of Board of Directors of Sanmar Denizcilik who made a speech in the ceremony said “As Sanmar A.Ş., we are proud of being granted our voluntary ISM certificate for our company and tugs. We are happy that the standards of our tug services further increased with the support of Turk Loydu. Continuity of our tug services provides great benefit for enabling Sanmar Shipyards, leader in tug construction and export to sustain this position. We thank to Türk Loydu”.  He stated that as Sanmar Denizcilik, they received ISM Code Certificate for providing a service at world standards to the customers and for protecting the environment although we are not obligated to receive this certificate since the tugs in our fleet are under 500 grt and Türk Loydu supported them in each stage in this process and the works of ISM Safety Management System Certificate for the remaining tugs would be completed as soon as possible.

ISM Code which could be considered as a significant tool in vessel operation and environment protection and which is applied by International Maritime Organization (IMO) stipulates that all cargo and passenger vessels over 500 gross tons operating in international waters regardless of their flags should receive ISM Safety Management System Certificate and that the companies which operate those vessels have ISM Document of Compliance.
